About the painting

Night Blossom (桜流し), Sou A Kou

Sakura 1000 is a jigsaw of Night Blossom (桜流し), a painting by Sou A Kou. Pale violet cherry blossom cascades from the top of the frame into a deep purple ground; the artist's signature and red seal sit at the lower right. The painting belongs to Keigen's silk scarf collection and is reproduced with the artist's permission. The pieces are cut from the painting's own image, never cropped, filtered or retouched, so a finished puzzle shows the whole painting.

Sou A Kou

Sou A Kou (b. 1960, Jilin, China) is an ink painter who has lived and worked in Japan since 1988, bringing the Chinese ink tradition into dialogue with the colour and materials of Japanese painting. He is best known for his cherry-blossom and floral series, and held a solo exhibition at the Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo, in 2011.

The puzzle

There are four sizes: Petal (70 pieces), Branch (204), Canopy (513) and Sakura 1000 (1,053). On phones and narrow windows, the puzzle offers Petal and Branch. Each game has a seed, and the same seed always gives the same cut and starting layout. Your game is saved in this browser as you play. It is free to play, with no sign-up.
