THE COLLECTION

Japanese floral art inspired by ikebana

Sou A Kou’s Rhythm of Flowers interprets Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter through ink, colour and Japanese flower arrangement. The series can be displayed as individual Japanese art prints or as a coordinated Four Seasons wall-art collection.

Available as framed paper, framed canvas or canvas hanging pieces, the works sit naturally within contemporary and botanical interiors while preserving the proportions of the original paintings.

The floral compositions also work as botanical wall art, with each season carrying its own palette and structure.

“Unlike gold and diamonds, art has this other value, and that’s what makes it fascinating. Everything else is trying to sell you something else. Art is trying to sell you yourself. That’s what is different about it. Art is what makes life worth living.”Keith Tyson, artist — quoted in Sarah Thornton, Seven Days in the Art World (2008)

What is included?

One reproduction of your chosen artwork, printed on paper: a 40 × 30 cm print in a 40 × 30 cm frame.

About these prints

These are decorative reproductions of original ikebana paintings by Sou A Kou (曹亜鋼) — not original paintings or hand-signed limited editions, which are published separately. The original paintings are held by the artist’s studio in Japan. Each is produced after you place your order and dispatched within 10 working days.

Dimensions & presentation

Sizes are print sizes — the sheet of paper or canvas, width × height — and match standard frames: 40 × 30, 50 × 40 and 70 × 50 cm. The painting sits centred with a white border, in the proportions of the artist studio’s master: ≈ 33 × 24, 44 × 32 and 60 × 44 cm. Framed: the frame’s outer edge adds the moulding width. On rails: the canvas is cut a little taller than the print size so the border is even once hung. Each piece in a set is the same print size.

THE ARTIST

Sou A Kou 曹亜鋼

Sou A Kou (b. 1960, Jilin, China) is an ink painter who has lived and worked in Japan since 1988, bringing the Chinese ink tradition into dialogue with the colour and materials of Japanese painting. He is best known for his cherry-blossom and floral series, and held a solo exhibition at the Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo, in 2011.

The four artworks on this page are his Rhythm of Flowers (華のリズム) ikebana paintings — Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Every print is reproduced from the artist studio’s master scan of the original painting, signature and seal included. His floral and cherry-blossom series form the basis of Keigen Art’s wall-art and selected wearable-art collections.

A FEW DETAILS

Before you choose.

What comes in a four-piece set?

One Spring (春), one Summer (夏), one Autumn (秋) and one Winter (冬) from the Rhythm of Flowers series, all in the same selected size, format and material. The displayed set price covers all four artworks.

Is canvas available framed and on rails?

Yes. Framed prints come on paper or canvas at the same price. The rails version is canvas only.

Do the rails need nails or drilling?

No. The cord hangs from the supplied 3M adhesive hook on suitable surfaces. Check the specific hook’s surface guidance and weight limit, and follow its installation and removal instructions. Adhesive suitability depends on the wall finish; nail-free does not mean suitable for every wall.

Which sizes are available?

Three print sizes in both formats: 40 × 30, 50 × 40 and 70 × 50 cm (width × height). These are sheet sizes and fit standard frames of the same name. The painting inside is smaller — about 33 × 24 cm on the 40 × 30 print — because its proportions are kept rather than stretched to the sheet. Each piece in a set is the same print size.

Can I buy a single artwork rather than the set?

Yes. Each of the four artworks is available individually. Choose “One artwork” above, then select your season, format, material and size.

Are these original paintings or reproductions?

These are art reproductions made from the artist studio’s master scans of Sou A Kou’s original paintings. The original paintings are held by the artist’s studio in Japan and are not sold here; these are open-edition decorative prints.

What style of interior works with the Four Seasons collection?

The floral and ink-based compositions work particularly well in contemporary, botanical, Japandi and Japanese-inspired interiors, but the collection is designed as art rather than as a fixed décor style.

Can I display the four seasons together?

Yes. The complete set is designed to work as a four-piece wall arrangement, but the artworks can also be divided across two walls or different rooms while keeping a consistent visual language.
